Affiliated Institutions
Medical Affiliations The Institute maintains close affiliations with the clinical services at both the White River Junction Veterans Affairs Medical Center and the Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center, as well as with other research groups at Dartmouth. These include faculty in the Departments of Community and Family Medicine, Medicine, Surgery, Radiology, Psychiatry, Psychology and Economics. In addition, the Spine Center, the Center for the Aging, the Norris Cotton Cancer Center and the Psychiatric Research Center offer faculty support and training opportunities.
Public Health InternshipClose to thirty other institutions are affiliated with The Institute program as part of the MPH Internship Component. Students can do their Internships in family practice clinics or community health settings, at a VA hospital, in an HIV clinic; they can work with the Global Health Council or the Vermont or New Hampshire State Health Departments; or work with institutions concentrating on health care for disadvantaged populations.
Community Service
Students at The Institute are encouraged to take part in various opportunities to serve the wider community.
Programs offered through Dartmouth’s Tucker Foundation give students a chance to work in such settings as a Big Brother/Big Sister program with disadvantaged local youth.
The Dartmouth Medical School Community Service Committee (CSC) is a student-run organization dedicated to community education and social service. The CSC sponsors fifteen student-run community service programs and provides a link between DMS students and the surrounding community. These programs are open to medical students and students of Institute graduate education programs.
