Graduate Programs

Institute graduate programs build on a rigorous core curriculum that provides an understanding of the challenges facing the U.S. health care system and a firm grounding in the skills required to measure, organize, and improve public health and health care.

Master of Public Health

A unique one-year program combining academic training and public health field experience.

Master of Public Health

Master of Science

A one-year program focused on outcomes research and health care improvement. Students may focus in either of two concentrations, and may take an optional second year for thesis or internship.

Master of Science

Doctor of Philosophy

Through close working relationships between students and faculty, the PhD program prepares graduates to conduct innovative, independent research toward the ultimate goal of improving health care.

PhD

Post-Doctoral Fellowships

The Institute offers two post-doctoral programs involving in-depth research with a faculty mentor.

Joint Programs

Three joint programs are also offered through The Institute: MD/PhD and MD/MPH (or MS), both with Dartmouth Medical School, and MBA/MPH (or MS) with Tuck School of Business at Dartmouth.

Leadership Preventive Medicine Residency

The first preventive medicine residency of its kind in the nation is offered jointly by The Institute and Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center.

Why The Institute?

Students at The Institute speak passionately about their reasons for coming to Dartmouth: they want health care to be technically better, more accessible, and more humane - goals not unlike those of their mentors.

At The Institute, students are exposed to a challenging curriculum, then invited to put it to work in an experiential learning environment.
